Getting the most from CDF
I Heart CDF is a comprehensive list of events happening in Cardiff. This post will tell you all that you need to know to be able to use the site to its full potential.
Finding the information
Events are listed both by venue and date. For example if you know that a band is playing in The Point and want to find out more information open up the Events menu and select The Point from the Events by Venue sub menu. The page will load all the gig’s that have been announced for the venue.
If instead you know that you’re wanting to go out on a specific date but aren’t sure what you want to do click on all events. Everything that is happening in Cardiff is listed in date order up to 6 months ahead (assuming the events have been announced). You’ll be able to see everything that is happening on a specific date from club nights in Glo Bar to comedy in the Glee Club and exhibitions in the National Museum.
The City Wide option covers those events that happen at random locations throughout the city or at venues that are too small to warrant their own dedicated page.
Staying up to date
Each venue and the main event listings have their own RSS feeds. For the uninitiated an RSS feed is a web feed which contains all the content of the listings piped to your RSS reader or browser. By subscribing you’ll be able to keep up to date on newly announced events without having to browse to the site. The main blog / front page of the site can also be subscribed to keeping you updated with any featured events and special notices.
Getting involved
You’ll also notice that many of the page’s are linked to Flickr groups. Each page pulls photos from it’s associated group. If you want to add photos for a specific venue; from an event you saw there and photographed click on the link below the flickr gallery and join the group. You can then add your images to the flickr pool and they’ll be displayed on the site.
You can also leave your thoughts and opinions anywhere that you’re able to comment. You can comment a specific post or you can comment on a venue page leaving valuable feedback for other users; you’ll even be able to establish conversations by replying to other’s comments.
Joining us
You’ll be able to view all pages on the site and leave comments without having to sign up; we just ask that you leave your name and an email address that’ll never ever be displayed. There’s also a registration link in the top right corner: click that and sign up if you want to. This helps legitimise what you’re saying. We’ll never spam you ever and we’ll certainly never pass on your details to any third parties.
